Privacy Policy

Realms & Dice Companion ("us", "we", or "our") operates the Realms & Dice Companion mobile application (the "App"). Realms & Dice Companion is an unofficial, fan-made reference and Q&A companion about Dungeons & Dragons. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

1. What we collect

• Questions you ask are sent to our servers to generate a grounded answer and may be processed by a third-party AI provider.
• If you tap feedback (👍/👎), we store the question, answer, and rating to improve quality.
• If you enable the daily-fact notification, we store your Apple Push Notification device token and your preferred notification time and time zone. The token does not identify you personally.
• Usage analytics: we record which parts of the App you use and when (for example opening a screen or asking a question), with the App's version, your iOS version and a random identifier the App creates when it is installed. The identifier is not your name, email or Apple ID, and a new one is made if you delete and reinstall the App. We use Mixpanel to store and count these events.
• Purchases: when you start, finish or cancel a purchase, we record the product, its price and the same install identifier so we can count sales. Apple handles payment, and we never see your payment details.
• Ad attribution: in the first days after install, the App asks Apple for an attribution token and sends it with the install identifier to our servers. Our servers send the token to Apple, which answers whether the install came from an Apple Ads campaign and which one. This uses no advertising identifier and does not follow you across other companies' apps or websites.
• Character portraits: when you draw a portrait, your character's name, ancestry, calling, level, ability scores, equipment and notes, and any description you write, are sent to our servers and to an AI image provider to draw it. The picture is stored on your device.
• Session recordings (optional): a recording stays on your device. If you choose to transcribe or analyze a session, its audio or transcript is sent to our servers and to an AI provider for that request.
• Chat history and the cached daily fact are stored only on your device and are not uploaded.

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, or advertising identifiers, and we do not sell personal data.

2. Third parties

• AI providers (such as OpenAI or Anthropic, depending on configuration) receive your question and retrieved reference passages to generate answers and embeddings.
• Apple Push Notification service (APNs) delivers the optional daily-fact notification.
• An AI image provider (OpenAI) draws character portraits, and an AI provider transcribes and summarizes the session recordings you choose to send.
• Mixpanel stores the usage analytics and purchase events described above, on servers in the European Union.
• Apple answers our attribution requests and processes all purchases.

3. Subscriptions

Realms & Dice Companion+ is an optional upgrade sold and billed by Apple (App Store). Purchases, restores, and cancellations are handled entirely by Apple on your device. We do not receive your payment details. When you use a paid feature that runs on our servers, the App sends Apple's signed record of your subscription so our servers can confirm it with Apple's signature. That record holds the product and its dates, not your payment details.

4. Data retention

Push tokens are kept until you disable notifications or uninstall the App. Feedback and aggregate query logs may be retained to improve the service. You can clear on-device chat history in the App at any time. Analytics events, purchase events and attribution answers carry only the install identifier, and are kept to count usage and sales.

5. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

6. Content and trademarks

This unofficial fan-made app references the D&D game system using original-authored summaries — not copyrighted rulebook text. "Dungeons & Dragons" and related marks are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast; this app is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.
